The Origin of Therapeutic Massage:

The origins of therapeutic massage are rooted in the common instinctive response to hold and rub a hurt or pain. Therapeutic massage is simply an established and more complex form of this instinctive reaction to bodily discomfort. When performed skillfully, it can relieve many kinds of chronic problems and disabling aches and pains. With the reemergence of holistic health theories, therapeutic massage is once again experiencing a rebirth and is gaining its rightful place amongst health care practitioners.

What is Massage?

Massage is traditionally defined as the manual manipulation of soft tissues of the body, including the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, using a system of strokes that include gliding, kneading, friction, pressure, and tapping.

The purpose of massage is to establish and maintain good physical condition and health by normalizing and improving muscle tone, promoting relaxation, stimulating circulation, and producing therapeutic effects on respiratory and nervous systems and the subtle interactions among all body systems.
